West African leaders storm in Accra over Guinea incidents

Some West African leaders will be in Accra for an Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The Summit will be on happenings on Guinea.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, September 15, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, who led an ECOWAS Mission to Conakry, said the Summit is to enable ECOWAS Heads of State and Government discuss issues in Guinea and chart a course on a peaceful handover to civilian rule.

“The forthcoming Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority is, therefore, being held to enable the high-level mission report to the Authority after which the latter will deliberate and consider the next steps to be taken towards the restoration of the country to the path of democratic governance and constitutional rule,” she told journalists in Accra.

“The Summit will, therefore, have a single agenda where I will lay before the Authority the report of the ECOWAS High-Level Mission to Guinea, which was undertaken on Friday, 10th September 2021.”

The Summit will be held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel.

Guinean President Professor Alpha Conde was ousted from power on Sunday, September 5 by members of the Special Forces of Guinea, led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.

Separately, the Ghana Police Service has announced diversion of traffic for motorists as a result of the Summit.

It, however, assures that it will ensure the free flow of traffic for all.
