Xiaomi reportedly planning to build its own car

Huawei has been expanding its presence in the automotive industry recently, but now, Xiaomi also seems to be aiming to join the market. A recent study has indicated that the company wants to develop its own vehicle.

Xiaomi reportedly planning to build its own car

Several reports have recently reported that the Chinese tech giant is preparing to develop its own car and considers it as a strategic move, according to an iFengNews article, but it has yet to decide the exact details and direction it plans to take. There are several variables and nothing is set in stone, the sources also said.

As per a person who is familiar with the matter, the project will be led directly by the founder and CEO of the smartphone manufacturer, Lei Jun, but when asked about this, the company has yet to respond.

Lei Jun visited the US twice back in 2013 to meet Tesla CEO Elon Musk. And now it seems that his interest in the field has increased. The study adds that the diversification comes as the demand for smartphones faces deflation. In addition, a growth in popularity has been seen in the electric smart vehicle market.

Therefore, if the company aims to extend its presence in an untapped market. Particularly with regard to its broad research and development team and expertise in electronic hardware. It will not come as a complete surprise.
